Overview

MYBA offers travel baseball for ages 8U through 15U. (15U registration will be at a later date) Anyone is allowed to participate in our MYBA Recreation League, but you MUST meet ONE of the following requirements to participate on a MYBA Travel team:

1. Participant lives in Morton or District 709
2. Participant attends a Morton school
3. Participant lives within Morton Park District boundaries (Contact the Morton Park District to verify)

Each age division has a Red (Heavy) team and a Gray (Lite) team consisting of 12 players. Red teams typically require a "heavier" schedule and competition level while Gray is meant to be a "Lighter" dedication. While these are standards, each selected head coach is responsible for establishing their schedule and registering their team in tournaments of their choice so it will vary. Each head coach should provide a summary of their expectations ahead of their tryouts. If you are unsure of the commitment, please reach out to our Travel Director, Alec Harris, and he can get you in contact with the head coach of your child's age group to ask questions. Selection Process

Each head coach of the Red team will conduct a tryout on 2 dates the last 2 weeks of July. There will be 2 board members and 1 other adult that has no ties to the team or the players. They will be given evaluation criteria to log for each player during each drill performed. These drills typically include mechanics of ground balls, fly balls, throwing, hitting, base running, pitching, and maybe catching. Each player will be scored on the same criteria for the 2 tryouts, but only the players’ top score will be retained. The top 9 scores will be offered a spot on the team while the last 3 picks are at the discretion of the coach. The reason for this is to provide flexibility to round out a team. For example, there may be a kid that is a very good pitcher, but not the best hitter or fielder. He may not make the top 12 scores, but if he can help the team with his pitching, the coach has the ability to add him to the roster. Once the 12 players are decided on the Red team, the players with the next 9 highest scores will be offered a spot on the Gray team. We will then solicit for Gray Head Coaches and once they are selected, they can choose the remaining 3 for their team. It will be up to them if they want to schedule an additional tryout in order to evaluate a select number of players. All head coaches will then select their assist coaches with board approval.

Uniforms and Cage Card

All players 9U and up will get cage cards to access the indoor facility at Westwood Park as part of their registration fee. They will be provided by our Indoor Cage Director soon after teams are established and will be active until August 1st of the following year. Each player will also receive 2 Jerseys, 2 hats, and a pair of socks as part of their fees. Other items such as pants, cleats, bat, and gear are not included in the registration fee. Uniform try-ons will take place sometime in October or November, depending on how long the design process takes. We utilize various vendors for quality hats and our top-of-the-line uniforms are designed and ordered through ProLook.

NOTE: Some coaches may require purchasing additional items if they choose to do so.

9U-12U Travel Red (Heavy) = $675

9U-12U Travel Gray (Lite) = $575

13U-15U Red and Gray = $675

If you pay by credit card there is a 2% fee.

Volunteer Requirements

Travel parents are required to volunteer throughout the year and each team's head coach will help coordinate this effort. Parents usually help with home tournaments (garbage duty, some light field prep, helping at concessions during rushes if needed), and other needs throughout the season if needed.
